MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA. The United States… are united no more. On February 4th, delegates from
seven states, seven SOUTHERN states, seven SECEDED states, seven servants of
that tyrant, KING COTTON, mutinously gathered like bloody pirates and created a
new ship of state – The Confederate States of America. And why?
Because a REPUBLICAN was elected president. A no-name country lawyer from Illinois with the folksy
moniker of “Honest Abe.” Honest? We shall see.
Honest Abe has promised not to abolish slavery where it already
exists. He promises this despite the
howls from the self-righteous abolitionists who claim to know what is better
for the black man than the black man himself.
Lincoln
promises the abolitionists that he will not let slavery spread. Isn’t this enough to appease the Quakers, the
Ministers, the Moralists? No. no one is happy. NO ONE IS HAPPY. And now our beautiful country lies broken and
wounded. One can only imagine the
salivating wolves like Mexico
and Great Britain ready to
pounce upon America’s
helpless carcass and tear us into further pieces. What are we to do with these 7 rebellious
states? How can we shut the shrill
voices of the abolitionists crying for blood?
Will it be war?
EDITOR’S NOTE !!! It has come to the attention of this
publication that spies for both North and South are already afoot. Specifically, there is talk of a plot against
our new President’s life. This paper
urges all Americans to be vigilant.
What's with all this fuss about the new President? I keep hearing these scuttlebutts about a dude called "Honest Abe" as the new leader of our United States. A new Union president? Well, that curly wolf better treat our country right! In fact, my wonderful friend, Joseph Singleton Mosby said I was "as innocent as Abraham Lincoln" in his letter to a friend! As a true Union-er, I am proud to have Lincoln as a national hero who saved the Union and fought a noble war to end slavery! (In my Confederate aspect: Lincoln had other motives when he provoked the Confederacy into firing on federal tax collectors at Fort Sumter in South Carolina, which he used as an excuse to launch a full scale war. Slaves were not important to Lincoln except as propaganda because Lincoln considered them intellectually inferior to Caucasians and wanted to relocate them to Central America.) Well! As a honest Union-er, I sure love my president! (He's a fraud-man)
ReplyDeleteThe south has finally seceded. Thank God for that. We have been united under lies for too long. Harper's Weekly Editor was right in the fact that no one is happy. The big problem is that we still haven't attempted to settle our differences. I don't really care what happens next. I'm game for a fight! With God's help, and a little assistance form our generals, we should succeed. Praise Dixie!
ReplyDeleteMr. Lincoln has won the election and that is that. He, in no way has bilked his way to this position. Mr. Lincoln is a wise and humble man that has experienced a heap of hardships. Mr. Lincoln should not back down just because a couple people are talking bosh about him and his promises. As a respectful country, we should listen reasonably to how Mr. Lincoln chooses to carry out his promises. I do hope that President Lincoln has enough game to conceive an ace-high solution to slavery without much violence. Violence is a fuss for everyone whether you're involved directly or not. I agree that this is not like when General Washington was elected president, but we should hold respect for whoever is in that position.

ReplyDeleteMy dear friend Sojourner Truth has told me that Mr. Abraham Lincoln is not an enemy, he is a friend to African-Americans. However, I am still unsure of what to think of this man. He promised to NOT abolish slavery to the white men. However, to us abolitionists, he promised that he will not let slavery spread. He seems to want to gain the trust of both the white men and the abolitionists.
ReplyDeleteI will decide my views on this Mr. President when the time comes.
If Abraham Lincoln is really qualified for presidency, then he will end this war by the end of his term. If he doesn't act soon, this war could potentially divide this country in two. This could cause great disputes over land and power. I understand the President Lincoln as well as Congress are trying to keep neutrality, but either please one group or none at all. There will be a time where the North or South will win, but my hopes are high that the northern abolitionists, including myself, will persuade Congress to banish slavery throughout the country. It will cause riots and unhappiness from the southerners, but it is for the greater good.
ReplyDeleteThe first assassination attempt is about to happen. My authority, Allen Pinkerton, the ace-high leader of the National Defense Agency, has discovered a conspiracy against Lincoln. Lincoln’s life has been planned to be taken on his route to inauguration. The Southerners are truly despicable; supporting the killing of a president is nothing short of treason. The Southerners deserve to be hanged—to die a coward’s death. Although we have foiled this plot, as a renowned spy, I know that we must maintain vigilance now more than ever and we must not grow arrogant. As of now, I am at sea to whether Lincoln will make a good president. With neither name nor wealth, his election is dubious. Has he been elected only because he is a republican abolitionist, or is he a political genius—the one we need to keep the country together? Being the first president to be the target of an assassination attempt en-route to inauguration, it sure doesn’t seem like he will keep the country together. I assure you all that we are just delaying war: this conflict will inevitably spill blood.
ReplyDeleteAs a current abolitionist I do not see "Honest Abe" as a threat or one who was turned america into a carcass for Mexico and Great Britain, although he is not ace-high in all viewing's for yes he is not removing all the bosh of slavery, but he is not letting slavery spread any farther then where it's been living. He may beat the devil around the stump, he may not take slavery from the white man ever, for time will tell. But, I am aware that us abolitionist's shall not throw in a towel, until our case and our beliefs our needs are met.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this Honest Abe trying to do? He’s trying to appease both sides at once. Whether this will work I’m not so sure. He has to fully support one side or the other. If there are plots against our president’s life, then most certainly they are because of his trying to please both sides. If he has an assassination plan in the near future then, will he really be a good president? I fully support our president, but I do question some of his ideas. I do believe, however, that the plotters of this assassination attempt were Southerners. No doubt that they wish for slavery to spread. The South does not approve of Abe’s idea to confine slavery within boundaries. The voices of abolitionists will not be silenced as our president takes to office and the seven rebellious states cannot be helped. Our country is destined to be on the path to war. We are simply taking detours along the way.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe our nation has come to this, electing that granger Honest Abe president. To me, he seems like the type of dude who can't choose a side. I'm proud the South has seceded, and even if the Northerners try to force us to back down and go along with them submissively, we Southerners will fight for our freedom. The abolitionists may wish to fight us because they believe they will win, but we Southerners have grit. Honest Abe will find there's nothing he can do to prevent war, and he better skedaddle out of there as fast as he can.
ReplyDelete(I can't believe the South has seceded, to me it seems like bosh. Why should you secede over our new President? Honest Abe seems like a good man, and he only wants our entire nation to be happy. That's why I'm stumped as to why both abolitionists and Southerners are unhappy. I fear there may be war soon with the South having seceded and the abolitionists crying for blood. The war is sure to be horrendous, and I fear neither side will throw in the towel.)
Mr. Lincoln has just sauntered into his position in the White House. His guarantees to keep slavery in the South is just hogwash, which we Southerners already knew, as not a single one of us voted for him, yet he is still where he is now. Lincoln has just been trying to find a passive and neutral way out of the problem of slavery and keep the problem in check for our next President to deal with. Someone as smart as Lincoln should know himself there is no solution that will mend the rift between us Southerners and those abolitionists. We know that too, which is why we seven cotton-growing states have seceded from the Union. We will start to give them a taste of what their world will be like without us, and you see, us generals have already started our course of action.
ReplyDeleteTaking the words of Mr. James Henry Hammond “Without firing a gun, without drawing a sword, should they make war on us, we could bring the whole world to our feet... What would happen if no cotton was furnished for three years? England would topple headlong and carry the whole civilized world with her save the South. No, you dare not to make war on cotton. No power on the earth dares to make war upon it. Cotton is King” We will end up getting European powerhouses on our sides when they are desperate, and whilst you Northerners are at your lowest points, we will topple you. No matter what, you Northerners have to understand, cotton will be king.
My duty pulls at me from two sides, dragging me towards two lands that could not be more different than black and white and no further apart than the Union and Europe. It all banks on wiliness and capability to keep my mask straight at this god-forsaken time. My false identity that currently resides in the North rages at “Mr. President’s” decision to allow even the tiniest trickle of slavery. My Confederate side, true to my heart, castigates his limit on slavery expansion, claiming that it will limit the South’s growth, thusly allowing the North to forge ahead. The few northerners who support him, like that bastard Allen Pinkerton, are forced into constant lookouts for our President’s health, be it murder or poisoning. It is to him that our President owes his life, especially regarding to the recent attempt assassinate him before inauguration. Mr. Lincoln’s election has done little, save widening the already seemingly infinite chasm between the north and the south. The lone link is our President himself, the paper thin string that is grasping tenaciously at both sides but fast losing grip. One can only pray and watch, for the wound is far too grave to mend. Mr. Lincoln’s futile attempt at peace has, inevitably, failed. The string has broken. Everyone must prepare, for the mounting angers are sure to burst, exploding into a massive, all-engulfing cloud of strife and hard-wrought anger, ridden with blood. It is now my time to act. As a fledgling spy, I will now muster my best material and further immerse myself in Northern society to glean any fragment, however small, to mitigate and bolster the Confederates’ stand. My information will soon travel on their deadly mission towards Thomas Jordan and thereon to the hands of higher officials like Major Doster and General Beauregard. Under God’s blessing, may they be of aid.
ReplyDeleteIf there must be war, let it come. But assailants beware: not all battles are fought on the surface.
ReplyDeleteI trust in Abraham Lincoln’s presidency, but I do not entirely support his perspective on the abolition of slavery. Unfortunately, his influential position restricts him to appease to both the North and the South. He promises to allow the states which sympathize with slavery to continue their practice of it, yet he promises not to let slavery spread. Due to these estranged morals, I am cautious and conservative when openly expressing my individual experiences regarding the “revolution of the abolitionists”. He has gone to neither the Northern nor the Confederate extreme, but instead he resides in the middle. By accepting the possibility of his election, he is also accepting the role to unify a nation of split beliefs. This feat, though may gain him respect for braving a task of that scale, will be the determinant of the amount of bloodshed during the civil war. I have not personally met Lincoln, though we have defined our correspondence through public addresses, letters, and newspapers. I would not like to dismiss his newborn presidency as bosh, for when Lincoln was elected to office, I was able to remain optimistic as I saw the potential to eventually emancipate. In general, the Republican Party suffered from a “fatally ambiguous” attitude towards us blacks, but Lincoln has always been opposed to slavery because he believes that its institution was the source of all conflict that tore the Union apart. Lincoln believed that by abolishing slavery, or at least preventing the spread of it, we had the possibility to quench the flames before they drew through the Missouri Compromise once more. Before the fire destroyed us from the inside out. Although I have mixed beliefs on Lincoln’s election, I am growing in the sense of trust I have for him. The realities of the foreboding war seem ever so close, yet distant. Blood will be spilled, and abolitionists like myself will not peacefully wait ourselves through a dispute fought for our cause.
This seccession movement will not last. States cannot declare themeselves apart from the union, it`s simply bosh! If wisely left alone, the separation will die out prematurely before it develops. Even whilst I have faith that the south will not remain separate, fear of increasing conflict lurks in my every thought. There is more and more talk of southern supporters around Washington. The belittlement of American government is disheartening. Our strong compact as a nation is being torn apart by a rebellious few. Not once in the constitution does it deem it permissable for any state, north or south, to remove itself from our country. I trust that Lincoln will restore order and convince the waywards to turn back. I am torn as to whether Lincolns attempts to assure southern states of his neutrality of the slavery institution are genuine. This nations integrity must be resored, but not at the cost of those who have no voice in the matter. Slavery must be abolished. For now I wait in hope that the southern states will take Lincoln`s speech in good faith and retreat from the warlike stance they have assumed.
ReplyDeleteI am quite puzzled by "Honest Abe". His stance, although quite neutral, could help the South in many ways. He did promise not to abolish slavery, but I still feel as though he leans to the North's side. Truly, I do not believe he really has an opinion, but merely wants to avoid war and conflict at all costs.
ReplyDelete(I am excited to see what Lincoln's presidency will bring. Stopping the expansion of slavery could be the next step for the North. I do worry about his inability to state a true opinion on slave power, but at the same time, I think what he is offering to the North is more than we could ask for at a time like this.)
President Abraham Lincoln has been making some poor decisions. The only point of view that I support of our president is to prevent the spread of slavery. Other than that, despite him being our president, I disagree with his ways. First of all, Lincoln promised that slavery would not spread. Although he said it would not spread, he said nothing about the fact that slavery would be abolished. He claims that this would please us abolitionists. In reality, all it does to us is make us stumped. We cannot even trust our own president. These are the reasons of why those seven states have ultimately seceded from the United States. Our country is being managed by a bunch of fools like Lincoln. Our country is a goner.
ReplyDeleteIf Abraham Lincoln doesn't act soon, this country could be ripped apart. But we mustn't speak early. Lincoln has already made promises to not interfere with the institution where slavery existed. I have faith in president Lincoln’s run for president, but his view on what he should do about slavery seem indefinite. I do in fact think he did this because he wanted to take a more cautious approach to his election; thus making no specific threats or remarks on any southern states about. Even though his expression of slavery may have been vague during his run for presidency, he has had a prominent history with denial of slavery. Lincoln‘s focus is not to abolish slavery; instead it is to unite the nation, to keep America on its feet. The threat of war looms over us, a one ton weight swings over our heads by a tiny thread, and someone’s bound to cut it.
ReplyDeleteThis "Honest Abe" fellow claims he has the power to solve the long warring conflict of slavery within our country. The simple fact of the matter, however, is that slavery will always be a conflict in the country. The very country we speak of, the country that holds the land by which we walk, is the country we war over. And for what, might I ask? The "rights" of mutant dark-skins? What rights do they have in the country we have shed the blood of our brothers upon? And now, because of a ridiculous conflict among the citizens of the country, our beautiful America lies in tatters. By the fault of the slaves, and the abolitionists. We do not give rights to land to dogs, so why slaves? They are as human as the livestock we raise on our farmland!
ReplyDelete(By the will of my own I will do everything I hold the power for in order to keep our beautiful country strong. My agency holds plans on protection of President Lincoln. The fact of the matter is that slaves are as human as we are, and this view is out dated and as worn as the clothes the slaves where upon their backs. The inability to change views comes from the lack of education of the farmers and farmhands of the South. The South who risks tearing apart the country we shed the blood of our brethren upon for pride. The South whose men risk all that we have worked for for the past two-hundred years for the sake of their "reputation". If you ask me, this war simply originates from pride, and stubbornness to mind one's own land. The war over slavery has been going on too long, and now it seems as though this wretched war is coming to an end, or nearing it.)

I'm stunned... I have watched this dispute over slavery and states rights destroy the South I once loved and cherished. I've seen women grow significantly uglier in wedlock and ignored and abandoned their former female friends. I know that these disagreements aren't just political disagreements they are a lot more than that. It is just unnecessary to divide the country over them.
ReplyDeleteThe best and bravest of the South sacrificed - and for nothing. Yes, worse than nothing. Only to rivet more firmly the chains that bind us. I'm appalled that this great country that has the potential to become the greatest nation on Gods Green Earth can get torn apart because of a new president.
I see our succession as the only decision that could make anyone happy. We have kept our slavery, and they have kept their "freedom". As for the abolitionists, forcing their ideals on all around them, there will be war. Harper's Weekly claims that my country, the confederacy, is the tyrant. We are not. Tyrants oppress their people, stamping out ideals other than their own. We aren't forcing slavery on the United States, but preserving it on our own soil.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, Lincoln is trying (and failing) to keep the United States together. The idiot cannot be on both sides of a conflict. We all know what happens to those who walk through the center of a battlefield.
ReplyDeleteThe United States has divided. How surprising. Anyone with common sense could see the tension unleashing at this moment. Bloodshed is imminent, and because I live in Tennessee, which is a state on the border between the United States and the Confederate States, my farm will be set back from the conflict. I'm ready for the war though. I have a custom made 50 caliber 41-inch barrel Kentucky Long Rifle. The only way this event has positively benefited me is that farms will be allowed to keep their slaves and the economy is the South will grow.
ReplyDeleteThis was bound to happen to the US a some point, and I say let there be war! If Lincoln doesn't want to do anything about it, then we shall. I have nothing to lose and can tell you that we are ready, this has been long awaiting us. As for the states that have decided to rebel, I would say keep fighting. The state I was born in is now part of the Confederacy and although I tend to move around a lot, I will stand by them the whole way. This includes when the abolitionists try to take away the slave system. If we declare war then everyone knows that abolitionists will not back down at any cost. If this new Abraham Lincoln guy really wants to lead our country, then he must see to the silence of the abolitionists, who are the reason our country is about to be torn into pieces.
ReplyDeleteNow that the United States is finally divided, the Union can hopefully end slavery for good. War will certainly follow as tensions still continue to escalate between abolitionists and slave owners. This "Honest Abe" had better become the curly wolf, and lead the nation in the right direction or else we'll have to throw in the towel. Hopefully Lincoln will realize that there is no solution for everyone and the war will have to be the one deciding whether slaves will remain legal. Mexico and Great Britain may additionally end up further tearing the United States if something isn't done to prevent it. We'd better prepare for the worst, as the war is just waiting to start.
ReplyDeleteMy home state has finally seceeded and according to daddy, it is a good thing at that. The nation is upset with us and there is nothing we can do, but slavery cannot be abolished. Daddy might leave us soon, especially if there is war. Slavery is a way of live and you can't take that away for my family and I. Our property is OUR PROPERTY, they wirk and plow the fields and keep our 3-person (soon to be 4 when mommy gives birth) household, like they were born to do. Seceding was a good idea, according to daddy and Georgia made the right decision. Give us our slaves or we will rebel.
ReplyDeleteWe will not tolerate these trouble making states. I am a man of the law, and a general of the country, and these southern states need to be taught a lesson. States rights? This is more like states anarchy. I say we simply march down there and force them to join the Union. We have far greater numbers than they. It's too late for a peaceful resolution.
ReplyDelete(The Southern states have left the Union. This is ace-high! They’ve skedaddled away like cowards. They beat the devil around the stump, not wanting to lose slaves. Slaves aren’t people to Southerners, but they are someone to tie to; we do all the work, the whole kit and caboodle.)
ReplyDeleteThe South says that if black folks wanted to be free, they would say something about it. If a brave slave speaks up about wanting freedom, they are attacked and called too stupid to know what is best for them. If the slaves try to escape, they force laws upon us that make us help find escaped slaves. When we, the slaves of the south, break free of their chains of shoddy excuses and laws, the South yet again manages to beat the devil around the stump. Now that the south has left our government, perhaps we can finally stand against it. I for one do not care if the South goes up the spout, it is a land built from stolen lives. I can only ever be truly proud of this country when all people in it are equal, men and women, black and white. I will only ever be glad of its people when folks like John brown are regarded as heroes, and people are not afraid to save people from lives of misery simply to prevent fighting, such as Lincoln does.
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine what it must be like to be the president of a country who acts like a selfish, little two year old. Part of our nation screams for freedom, while the other insists that they get what they want. This problem cannot be dealt with lightly. President Lincoln has made a realistic promise, for he cannot deal with the rude southerners without an uprising. If you complain about Lincoln not solving your problems then see the other side for a change. Let slavery stop! Our nation may be divided, but our minds are made up. All of us waiting for a sign of movement, slavery to stop or to spread. All I can say is that the Southerners are foolish and out of their minds trying to spread such inhuman activity. If only a white man was left in Africa to tan himself into the darker shade of skin color to see for himself, that color doesn't mean separation!
ReplyDeleteI am hearing all these rumors, about "honest abe." I mean, what's with all this fuss?
ReplyDeleteAnd what's wrong with a republican being elected president? I really don't understand why you southern people are complaining. I'm sure he's a great guy, somebody who can really unite us as a country, instead of seperating us. You people just won't understand. Southerners with a mind of their own. Secession from the existing Union later will lead to the American Civil War, a bloody, four-year struggle that left much of the South in ashes and ended its hope of creating a new confederacy of states on the North American continent. What do all these wars have in common? They are all typically cause by disagreements between us and you southern people. Why can't you just get along with us? And give people like "honest abe" a chance before you judge him. At the end of the day, he is called "honest abe" for a reason.
